Last week I had my fall break (which was only two days), so Aaron surprised me by having my best friend fly out for a little staycation in San Francisco. It was a much-needed break from school, and staying in downtown San Francisco definitely made me like the city more!
We’ve already done most of the popular touristy things, so we just enjoyed being in the city and relaxing. (Someday I’ll do a complete guide of things to do and see in San Francisco!) We stayed at the Palace Hotel and spent the weekend eating really good food, shopping, and just exploring the downtown area.
The Palace Hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit San Francisco. It’s within walking distance of all the best shopping, so we went to Neiman Marcus for an afternoon to shop and eat at the Rotunda. Afternoon tea is really popular both at the Rotunda and at the Palace Hotel. We didn’t do tea, but we did do brunch at the hotel and lunch at Neiman’s. We loved eating at the Rotunda and would definitely go back.
One night while we were there, we drove up to Marin to eat at the Restoration Hardware rooftop restaurant. You have to make reservations well in advance, but it was SO worth it. The atmosphere was gorgeous, and the food was delicious. Aaron wasn’t thrilled about the number of pictures Alicia and I wanted to take, but it’s a gorgeous restaurant so we couldn’t resist.
The next night, we decided to check out the immersive Van Gogh exhibit. It’s a bit pricey for what it is (a 25-minute show projected on the walls and floor of one big room), but I’m an art history nerd so I loved it.
We ended our staycation by eating at Dumpling Time and wandering through Chinatown before taking Alicia to the airport. Even though part of me felt like I should have been using the break to prepare my appellate advocacy oral argument scheduled for the following week, I really needed this break! I’m so grateful to Aaron for planning this little getaway, making reservations at the “cute” restaurants for us, and for arranging to have Alicia come visit!
