This is old news to some, but I’ve been meaning to announce that I started my MBA earlier this year! I’m doing a joint degree program, which will allow me to complete it with my J.D. in less time than it would take to complete both degrees separately. I’ll be taking MBA classes year-round and will officially graduate from both programs in December 2023. I was in the middle of my law semester when the Evening MBA program started, so I’ve been barely keeping my head above water trying to manage it all (hence the lack of posts).
I somehow made it through a month that consisted of 7 final exams, 2 final projects, 2 midterm exams, and 1 presentation. For future JD/MBA students, don’t be like me and take 25 credits at the same time. 🙂 Fortunately, in future semesters I’ll be taking a lighter course load at the law school to make it more manageable.
Aside from being exceptionally busy, I’m enjoying my business classes so far! The classes and culture are very different from the law school—perhaps someday I’ll write a post comparing the two. My first term included classes on leadership, marketing, venture capital, and quantitative methods. I’ve always been very interested in venture capital, and my nerdy self loved calculating cap tables. I’m planning on doing the Finance emphasis of the MBA program, so I’m looking forward to taking similar classes in the future.
Adding to my list of school updates, I’m excited to say that I am now Co-President of a student organization at the law school! It’s a student chapter of a national organization called ChIPs (Chiefs in Intellectual Property), which has a mission of advancing women in tech, law, and policy. I’ve loved being on the Executive Board this past year, and I’ve had opportunities to meet amazing mentors as a member of ChIPs. It’s a little surreal to now be a leader of an organization that has been such a significant part of my law school experience, and I hope to give other students the same great experience I’ve had.
Now it’s time for me to get studying for my first Accounting midterm of the summer term!
